Sigma Tau Gamma Alpha Chapter - Volume 1 Issue 2

Updated: May 20, 2021

Intramural Champions!

In both A and B league softball the men of Sig Tau could not be stopped. A team defeated Sig Pi 8-3 and B team defeated AKL 22-16 in the championship games. Also, our sand volleyball team defeated Sig Pi 2-0 in the championship game.

Two New Sig Taus on IFC Board

Active members Jonah Libbert and Tre Kendell both stepped up and applied to be on the Interfraternity Council. Recently we found out that they both were accepted. Jonah is now the Vice President of Promotions and Tre is the Vice President of Accountability. Both of these positions are very important and will continue to improve our relationship with IFC and the university.

Supporting Great Causes

A few of our members volunteered to participate in Big Pink and Alpha Fifa which are both philanthropy events that raise money for great causes. The Big Pink Volleyball tournament is an event hosted by the university that donates all of its proceeds to non-profit cancer research centers and our members had the privilege of bringing home the trophy. Alpha Fifa is also a philanthropy event that is hosted by the women of Alpha Phi who donates all their proceeds to women’s heart health. This event is a soccer tournament and of course the men of Sig Tau brought home another trophy.

Kilmer Scholarship

The Kilmer Scholarship was established at the University of Central Missouri in the late 1980's by George Kilmer. His estate left $25,000 dollars and the investment income from that money provides annual scholarships to the Alpha Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. The fund is managed by the UCM Foundation and the scholarships awarded based on annual applications and evaluation by the Sigma Tau Gamma - Alpha Chapter Alumni Association.

We want to grow this fund to help the chapter. Donations are tax deductible, stay locally in the UCM foundation and are awarded to Alpha Chapter Sig Tau's only. This fund is a great alternative to donating to the national fraternity Heritage Fund which also serves the chapter. Donations may be made at any time using the UCM online portal (Link).

For the 2019-2020 Academic Year $500 scholarships were awarded to:

  • Maxwell Bowers (Carney, MO) - Man of the Year

  • Ryan Miller (Jeff City, MO) - Outstanding Associate Member

  • Jacob Weeks (Adrian, MO) - Outstanding Senior

  • Jarrod Henry (Jeff City, MO) - Outstanding Chapter Recruiter
