The Irwin and Ferne Graves Heritage Fund
The Irwin and Ferne Graves Heritage Fund supports scholarships and grants for undergraduate members of the Alpha Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity at the University of Central Missouri.
The fund honors Colonel Graves, Kappa '41 and his wife Ferne who were long time advocates and supporters of Alpha Chapter. The scholarships are provided based on academic achievement and grants help support participation in various leadership development programs.
The Alpha Alumni Association awards these scholarships and grants on an annual basis. Gifts to the Heritage Fund, which is administered by the Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation, are tax deductible.
Many brothers have benefited from this program over the years. It is important that we all make an effort to give back to the chapter that gave so much to many of us. Below are some words from past recipients:
"During my undergraduate years at UCM I was able to receive several academic scholarships from the Graves Heritage Fund. The greatest honor for me was receiving my certificate from Colonel Graves himself. The Graves gave so much of their time, energy, and resources to Sigma Tau Gamma, but these scholarships helped ensure I was focused on my grades during each semester." – S. Michael Woods ’02, Risk Control Director – Travelers Insurance
"While an undergraduate member of Sigma Tau Gamma I had the great privilege of living in the “students apartment” at the Grave’s house for a couple of years. Col. and Mrs. Graves were like second parents to me. They were generous to me and generous to Alpha Chapter. I encourage everyone to honor them with a donation to Alpha’s heritage fund named in their honor."- John Heiman
"Thank you for the lasting memories and for all that you did for Sigma Tau Gamma."- Billy Brown
"Receiving recognition for academic achievements was both encouraging and motivating, not only for me, but also for others to reach the same levels of academic success" - Sam Smith
"I was both happy and proud to be a recipient of a scholarship from the the Col. Graves fund. The scholarship allowed me to purchase necessities like books as well as pay my dues. It affected me positively as a student as well as a member of Sigma Tau Gamma."- Mike Thomas
"Thanks to the scholarships I received from the Graves fund, I was able to take an active role in the UCM community. These experiences provided me with leadership skills that will serve me well beyond graduation." Spencer White, '13 Actuarial Assistant, Lockton Companies
